Greetings!
I recently started building my startup app, and honestly, choosing an MBaaS felt way harder than picking the frontend stack. At first, I only cared about how fast I could launch, but after testing a few platforms, I realized that pricing scalability and backend flexibility matter far more than flashy features. Some services are super beginner-friendly, but once you want more control, things get messy pretty quickly.
I’d also say check how difficult it is to migrate later. That is something I completely ignored in the beginning. Right now, I am leaning more toward platforms like Back4App or Supabase because they feel less restrictive than fully locked-down ecosystems. Good docs, authentication support, database performance, and predictable pricing have become my top priorities after a few surprises during development.
In this regard, I found sources like this https://blog.back4app.com/what-are-the-leading-mobile-backend-as-a-service-providers/ very helpful for understanding the leading MBaaS platforms and how they can assist beginners. So, I am considering these factors right now:
- Speed to Market
- Lean Learning Curve
- Open-source nature
- Offline sync capabilities
- API support for both GraphQL and REST
So, do you think Back4app or Supabase is the best choice? What are your thoughts about big players like AWS Amplify or Google Firebase?
