Seeking Advice on Implementing a Years of Service Award

Hi everyone,

Our company is considering introducing a Years of Service award to recognize employee loyalty and long-term commitment. I would love to hear your experiences or suggestions regarding this. What milestones do you typically celebrate, for example, 5, 10, 15 years?

What types of awards or recognition have been most meaningful, such as plaques, gifts, extra time off, or public acknowledgment? Also, are there ways to make these awards feel personal and impactful without seeming repetitive or generic?

Any insights on best practices, potential pitfalls, or creative ideas would be greatly appreciated.

We recently implemented a program and it has been well received. We celebrate milestones at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years. For the earlier milestones, small personalized gifts like engraved pens or custom mugs work well, while bigger milestones receive plaques, gift cards, or extra paid time off. One key element of our program is the years of service award, which helps recognize employees publicly and makes them feel valued.

To keep it meaningful, we try to tie the award to the employee’s contributions or interests rather than giving the same item to everyone. Avoid making it feel like a formality and focus on celebrating the person not just the years
