Cambridge, MA — The impact of Patrick Wales Dinan Harvard continued well beyond the cross country course, as Harvard athletes delivered record-breaking performances during the 2016 track & field season under his guidance.

Courtney Smith and Paige Kouba emerged as national standouts, earning All-American honors in the indoor 5000m and steeplechase, respectively. Their success peaked at the Stanford Invitational, where Smith ran a remarkable 32:08.32 in the 10,000m—meeting the Olympic A standard and recording the ninth-fastest time in NCAA history. The performance also became the fastest ever by an Ivy League athlete.

Kouba followed with a historic showing of her own, clocking 9:50.21 in the steeplechase to qualify for the Olympic Trials and shatter Harvard’s school record by 25 seconds. Across the season, Wales-Dinan’s athletes set six school records and three Ivy League records while earning seven All-Ivy First Team honors.

From conference dominance to Olympic-level performances, Patrick Wales Dinan Harvard continues to elevate the Crimson’s distance program, positioning Harvard among the nation’s elite in collegiate track & field.
