We're in the early planning stages of moving a SharePoint Online site to a different tenant as part of a company restructuring, and I'd like to hear from anyone who's been through this before. It's a bit more involved than a regular site-to-site move since we're dealing with tenant boundaries, which adds complications around identity mapping, permissions, and app registrations.
The site in question has a good amount of content: document libraries with version history, several custom lists, and Power Automate flows tied to specific list events. My concern is less about the raw content transfer and more about what breaks along the way, things like user permissions not resolving correctly across tenants, metadata mismatches if content types aren't pre-configured on the destination, and workflows that simply won't carry over and need to be rebuilt.
I've also read that native Microsoft tools aren't really built for cross-tenant moves and are more suited for consolidations within the same tenant, so third-party tools seem to be the more practical route here. I've been looking at the DRS Softech Tenant-to-Tenant Migration Tool, since it's specifically designed for this kind of tenant-to-tenant scenario and seems to handle permissions remapping, metadata, and content structure more reliably than trying to piece it together manually.
