Learning Python in 2026: Is a Self-Paced Programming Course Worth It?

I've been wanting to build a strong foundation in programming and was looking for a Python course that starts from the basics without assuming prior coding experience.

I recently came across the Basic Programming Using Python self-paced program from the E&ICT Academy, IIT Kanpur. The curriculum seems to cover core Python concepts such as variables, data types, loops, functions, file handling, object-oriented programming, and practical coding exercises.

What caught my attention is that it focuses on building programming fundamentals rather than jumping straight into AI or data science. From what I've seen, many people struggle with advanced technologies because they skip the basics.

For anyone who has taken a similar beginner-friendly Python course:

  • How long did it take you to become comfortable with Python?
  • Did learning Python help you move into areas like AI, Data Science, Automation, or Web Development?
  • Do you think a structured self-paced course is better than learning entirely from YouTube and free resources?
