Restoring backup data becomes urgent when trying to repair corrupt BKF file created by NTBackup or Symantec Backup Exec, since modern Windows versions no longer include native NTBackup support — making built-in restoration tools completely unavailable for BKF archives created on older Windows XP or Server 2003 systems. Converting the BKF file to a TAR archive using the free MTFTar utility allows extraction through standard archive programs like 7-Zip or WinRAR, but this approach handles only lightly damaged files and fails when the corruption affects core archive structures. Interruptions during the original backup process — caused by power failures, network disconnections, or sudden system shutdowns — are among the most common triggers for BKF corruption, leaving the archive in a partially written state that neither NTBackup nor Backup Exec can restore cleanly. SysInfo BKF Recovery Tool supports BKF files created by both Windows NTBackup and Symantec VERITAS Backup Exec through the same interface, processing corruption through Standard and Advanced scanning modes depending on severity. The Set Range Scan feature allows targeting specific portions of the archive rather than scanning the entire file, reducing recovery time for large backups. Preview displays recovered data in a tree structure before saving across all Windows versions including Windows 11.
