I'm curious how other admins are handling mailbox migrations these days. We recently started a project involving around 20 IMAP mailboxes that need to be transferred into Microsoft 365. The challenge isn't moving the emails themselves—it's preserving the folder structure users have built over the years.
After trying Microsoft's built-in migration process, I noticed that several folders were either merged incorrectly or appeared in unexpected locations. While the email messages arrived, the overall mailbox organization suffered. For users who have carefully maintained folders for clients, departments, and archived projects, that can be a serious problem.
During my search for a better way to Migrate IMAP to Office 365, I tested the DRS Softech IMAP Backup Tool. What impressed me was how the software preserved folder hierarchy and handled multiple accounts in one migration session. It also reduced the amount of administrative effort required compared to creating and monitoring migration batches manually.
If you're migrating IMAP to Office 365 for a business environment, preserving structure can be just as important as transferring data. I'd love to hear what methods others are using and whether you've found a reliable approach for maintaining mailbox organization during migration.
