Has anyone tried using TikTok for backlink or SEO experiments?

Hey folks,

That’s actually a really interesting point — I’ve tried something similar too. Short-form videos on TikTok can definitely drive traffic if you approach it right. I noticed that using relevant hashtags and adding a subtle call-to-action in the caption can send a decent number of visitors to a site, even without a clickable link in the video.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that many people experiment with third-party app stores to access alternative versions of TikTok, like TikTok 18, which offers more flexibility for adult creators and content that isn’t allowed on the regular app. These third-party stores often provide modded or region-specific apps that aren’t available on official platforms. One example you can check out is protik18, where you can learn more about how such versions work and where they can be downloaded safely.

Would love to hear if anyone else here has seen better engagement or traffic using those alternative app versions or external sources.

Just wanted to add another observation after testing this a bit more.

One thing I noticed is that TikTok traffic behaves very differently from traffic coming from Google or Pinterest. A single video can send a sudden spike of visitors within a few hours, but maintaining that traffic requires posting consistently and targeting the right audience. In some cases, even videos with relatively low views can generate website visits if the content is closely related to what users are searching for.

I’ve also been looking at how alternative TikTok communities interact with content. Users who download modified or region-specific versions, including TikTok 18 and similar apps, often rely on external websites for updates, downloads, guides, and troubleshooting. Because of that, these audiences may be more likely to visit websites directly compared to regular users who stay entirely within the official app ecosystem.

Another interesting thing is that TikTok content can sometimes appear in Google search results, which creates an indirect SEO benefit. Even if the platform itself doesn't pass traditional link equity, increased brand searches, user engagement, and referral traffic may still contribute to overall visibility.

I'm curious whether anyone here has tracked rankings, branded search growth, or referral traffic after running TikTok-focused campaigns for several months. Did you notice any measurable SEO impact, or was it mostly just short-term traffic?
