Can negative Google results permanently damage someone’s reputation?

I’ve noticed that a single negative article, Reddit thread, complaint post, or outdated news result can dominate Google search results for years — even when the information is misleading or no longer relevant.

What surprises me most is how employers, clients, and even personal relationships now search people online before making decisions.

I’m curious how people here handle situations like:

  • false accusations appearing in search
  • negative reviews targeting a business
  • old content damaging current credibility
  • personal information or images spreading online
  • reputation attacks from competitors
Is it actually possible to remove or suppress harmful search results anymore, or is online reputation basically permanent once something gets indexed by Google?

Would love to hear real experiences from people who’ve gone through this.
