Our IT department recently inherited a large collection of Outlook PST files from different business units. Some archives date back nearly ten years and contain important emails, calendars, contacts, and attachments that must remain accessible after our Microsoft 365 migration.
The manual import process works for smaller environments, but enterprise deployments introduce additional complexity. Between Azure uploads, permissions, CSV mapping, and validation, administrators spend more time managing the migration than actually moving the data.
While evaluating available options, we reviewed the DRS Softech PST File Converter because it offers preview functionality, batch conversion, duplicate removal, selective mailbox migration, and compatibility with both ANSI and Unicode PST files.
Our compliance team has requested complete mailbox preservation, so maintaining folder hierarchy, metadata, timestamps, and attachment relationships is mandatory. We're therefore planning to Import PST File to Office 365 only after each mailbox passes a detailed verification process.
We'll also perform pilot migrations for key departments before expanding the rollout across the organization. That approach should help us identify unexpected issues while minimizing business risk.
The final phase of the project will upload PST to Office 365 for all remaining enterprise users while keeping business operations uninterrupted. If you've completed a migration involving several hundred PST files, I'd be interested in learning which validation techniques helped ensure a successful deployment.
