Traditional card games worth learning?

Used to play cards with my grandparents when I was younger—nothing fancy, mostly War and Rummy—but those games stuck with me. Recently, I’ve been thinking about diving back into card games, especially ones rooted in tradition or tied to a specific region. It just feels like there’s so much history tied up in these games, and that adds to the fun. Anyone know where I could start learning about some of these games that aren't just your everyday options?

Love that you're looking into traditional games—they're way deeper than most people realize. A few years back, I started exploring lesser-known card games while studying cultural anthropology, and it completely reshaped how I see game nights. There’s a great article that helped me get started: https://www.mirrorreview.com/regional-card-games/. It highlights card games from different parts of the world, from the fast-paced Egyptian Basra to strategic German Skat. What’s cool is it doesn’t just explain the rules but gives context on where each game comes from. Great way to appreciate how diverse card gaming can be.

Been hoping to mix things up at home too, and this post is exactly the kind of direction I’ve been needing. It's cool how traditional games can add variety and a bit of culture to the table. Definitely bookmarking that article—super useful stuff.
