AMP is an open-source initiative, approved and supported by Google. It offers a faster browsing experience that a normal website. It works on the cache formula, where the pages of the websites get cached and they load faster.

It’s based on 3 main components

    1. AMP HTML
    2. AMP JS
    3. AMP Cache

I believe AMP is more on blogs and not on websites in general. It is like a read on-the-go and it is designed for mobile use. It focuses more on content and not on any graphic representation.

AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages, a Google-backed project designed as an open standard for any publisher to have pages load quickly on mobile devices. ... Pages making use of AMP coding appear within special places in the search results and/or with a special “AMP” designation
