Tell him to use less of the browser, and to turn off his running raps.
Also, turn the brightness down if it's not already 100%.

There are numerous portable battery charging devices available that are compatible with almost any smartphone. I was given one as a present as I used to have the same problem/issue. If you don't like switching batteries all the time, I suggest you find a suitable portable charger that you find to be most compatible with your phone.

In this particular context, I would like to tell you all about an app on Android, which is called Advanced Task Killer.
This app restricts usage of apps in background, thereby improving the battery life of the phone!
I am using it since a while now, the results are pretty good!

Turn off WiFi, 3G when not in use. Make sure the brightness isn't blasted high. Don't leave many programs running in the background. Also, tell him not to wait till the phone battery is completely drained until he charges it. You should charge a phone before it turns off. If he believes that his battery has a problem, just tell him to replace the battery.

I turn off Bluetooth, Wifi, and other things that the device is searching for when I'm not using it. I also keep my brightness at about 5%, this may not work for everyone, but there is no need for a brightness higher than 50% IMO.

Your best bet is to carry portable charger with yourself, but some of the ways you can save battery are:
-Switch off Data when not using
-Set Brightness to Auto or manually set it to low.
-Switch off GPS while not using, etc.
Apps like EasyBatterySaver are quite usefull and let you set your preferences.

There's no way to necessarily "fix" battery draining, it's an outcome of you using your phone too often, or too long. Take the above tips like turning off WiFi, tweaking the brightness, etc. If it dies very often after doing these tweaks, it's time to get a new phone.
