    Dog Barking HELP!

My friend recently adopted a dog from a shelter.
Nothing was known about him, just that he is only 1 year old.
We think he's a Cairn / Yorkie mix.
He is as good as gold when he's in the home, he is chilled out, quiet, obedient and very loving. He is happy when strangers come to the door, is great with people who come in and he can visit other places.
But whenever we go out he just starts barking at strangers. He acts totally different. I dunno what to do. Anyone help

    Re: Dog Barking HELP!

It's a fact of life - dogs bark!
Dog barking is a natural canine behavior. It's how they communicate and a bark can mean anything from 'Let's play!', 'I'm hungry', or 'I'm bored' to a warning of danger...'there's a burglar in the house!'.

Your Cocker Spaniel should be allowed to bark in order to communicate with you or to let you know of a potential danger. However, once your pet has 'made his point' the barking should stop.
Excessive barking shouldn't be tolerated for any reason and it's best if the problem is addressed quickly, before it becomes a habit.
If your dog's barking does become habitual it will be much more difficult to stop
